Arthurs Seat Eagle gondola
Ride between Dromana and the summit of Arthurs Seat on an aerial gondola above Arthurs Seat State Park. The journey takes around 15 minutes each way, with views across the bushland and Port Phillip Bay.

Arthurs Seat Eagle is a gondola ride on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, linking its Base Station in Dromana with the Summit Station at Arthurs Seat. It’s a scenic way to see the slopes and bushland of Arthurs Seat State Park from above, with Port Phillip Bay and the coastal landscape opening out around you. The ride suits a relaxed peninsula day trip, or a shorter stop paired with a summit walk or picnic.
What the ride is like
The gondola travels above the tree canopy between the two stations. Each trip takes about 15 minutes on average, and a return journey takes around 30 minutes of riding time. Operating speed and weather can affect the duration, so allow extra time for queues and any stop at either station.
Views vary with visibility and light. On a clear day, you may see more of the bay and surrounding coastline; cloud, haze or changing conditions can make the outlook more limited. The experience is as much about the changing landscape below as it is about reaching the summit.
Choose a one-way or return trip
A one-way ticket can work if you have a pick-up arranged at the other station or plan to walk back. The operator describes the walk between stations as long, so don’t treat it as a short stroll. A return ticket lets you pause at the summit or base before taking the gondola back; you can spend as long as you like at either station before returning.
If you’re driving, you can begin at either station. The Base Station is at 1085 Arthurs Seat Road, Dromana, and the Summit Station is at 795 Arthurs Seat Road, Arthurs Seat. The operator lists parking at both stations, but availability may vary on busy days.
Make time for the summit
The Summit Station is a useful place to slow down after the ride. Parks Victoria notes that food and coffee are available at the summit, along with picnic tables and electric barbecues in the summit area. You can combine the gondola with a look around the summit precinct rather than riding up and immediately heading back.
For a more active visit, consider adding a walk in Arthurs Seat State Park. Keep your plans flexible if you’re travelling with young children or older visitors: the gondola offers an alternative to walking uphill, and Parks Victoria describes it as wheelchair and pram friendly.
Hours and weather
The operator currently lists opening hours of 10 am–5 pm on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, and 10 am–4 pm Tuesday to Friday. Hours can change without notice and may be adjusted for weather or operational reasons. Check the operator’s latest updates before travelling, and look for the “Last Gondola Flight” notices at the Base and Summit Stations on the day.
In extreme weather, gondola operations may stop for guest safety and comfort. If the ride is a key part of your plans, check for updates before setting out and leave room in your itinerary for a change of plan.
Tips for your visit
- For an easy visit, ride up and back, then spend extra time at the summit rather than trying to fit the return ride into a tight schedule.
- If you’re considering a one-way ticket, plan your pick-up or return walk before you set off; the operator warns that walking between stations is long.
- Bring a light layer and keep your camera ready. Conditions and visibility can change, and the view is not guaranteed to be clear.
- Check the official opening-hours and closure updates on the day, then confirm the last gondola notice at the station.
- If visiting with a pram or wheelchair, check access details with the operator before travelling, especially if you have specific requirements.
